Additional Information
Knossos Palace
Once the most important city on Crete before the Roman era, Knossos was the center of the first advanced European civilization—the Minoans. It is the most visited archaeological site in Crete, drawing over 1,000,000 visitors annually. Located just 5 km south of Heraklion, this vast site includes the palace and other archaeological remnants from a city that once housed over 100,000 people.
The palace, linked to Greek mythology, was the seat of the legendary King Minos and the site of the famous myths of Daedalus and Icarus, the Labyrinth, and the Minotaur. The term "Minos" refers not to a single person, but to a series of kings bearing that name. The palace’s history spans from the Neolithic era to the early Byzantine period. Excavations were first undertaken by the renowned Cretan archaeologist Minos Kalokerinos in 1878, uncovering numerous ancient artifacts.
Bali Seaside Village
Located 30 km east of Rethymno and 43 km west of Heraklion, the seaside village of Bali is easily accessible via the National Road connecting Heraklion and Rethymno. This picturesque bay is perfect for family and romantic getaways. With four beautiful beaches and calm, greenish waters, Bali is ideal for swimming and relaxation. The beaches are well-organized and child-friendly, ensuring a peaceful day by the sea.
