Additional Information
Kournas Lake
Kournas Lake is the largest natural lake in Crete, nestled in a picturesque landscape just 2.5 km south of the beach in Georgioupolis and 43 km east of Chania. This area is home to a unique and important ecosystem, as it is one of the few regions in Crete with a year-round fresh water supply. The name "Kournas" likely derives from the Arabic word "kurna," meaning "lake" or "bath."
Vamos Village
Vamos is the administrative center of the Apokoronas region, located 26 km from Chania in the northwest of Crete. This charming village offers an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience, far from the mass tourism of other parts of the island. Its traditional stone houses and peaceful atmosphere make it a perfect spot for a tranquil getaway.
Almyrida Village
Almyrida is a quiet resort located 23 km east of Chania. Known for its stunning beaches and tranquil atmosphere, it offers a perfect escape from the crowds. Surrounded by lush olive groves, it’s ideal for hiking and exploring the nearby countryside. Just a short distance away is Plaka Village, known for its healthful climate and welcoming locals. The area is also home to fascinating sea caves along the east coast, extending up to Drapanos Cape.
