Additional Information
Elafonisi is a breathtaking peninsula, often divided by shallow waters, giving the impression of an island. As a Natura 2000 protected area, it’s home to a rare and exotic beach featuring white sands and clear turquoise waters reminiscent of the Caribbean. In some areas, the sand takes on a pinkish hue, thanks to millions of crushed shells, creating a truly unique sight.
Monastery of Panagia Chrissoskalitissa
The historical Monastery of Panagia Chrissoskalitissa is nestled on the southwestern side of Chania. Built during the Venetian era, it sits atop a cliff with stunning views over Elafonisi Beach. Today, it’s a place of pilgrimage, and visitors can explore its open rooms, which house a fascinating folklore museum showcasing everyday items, tools, and artifacts from the Cretan Revolution.
Aspri Limni
Aspri Limni is one of Crete's hidden gems. Located just 500 meters west of the Chrysoskalitissa Monastery, this secluded beach is rarely visited, making it the perfect escape. With fine white sand, sharp rocks, and an almost surreal, lake-like feel, it’s a peaceful and pristine location that remains untouched by large crowds.
Voulolimni
Voulolimni is a small crater located 500 meters northwest of the Chrysoskalitissa Monastery. Surrounded by rocks, this unique, small "pool" is a local favorite. While it’s not a typical beach, it offers a refreshing and secluded place for a dip in the tranquil waters.
